Understand What You're Experiencing

Common Concerns We Support

You don't need a diagnosis to start exploring what you're experiencing. Learn about common concerns and the kinds of support that may help.

Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal response to uncertainty or perceived threat. It may become a concern when worry, fear or physical symptoms persist and begin affecting everyday life, relationships, work or sleep.

You may notice

  • Persistent worry or overthinking
  • Feeling tense, restless or on edge
  • Difficulty concentrating or switching off
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Avoiding overwhelming situations
  • Racing heart, sweating or stomach discomfort

What can help

Psychotherapy can help you understand patterns of worry, avoidance and behaviour and develop more effective ways of responding. CBT is one evidence-based approach commonly used for anxiety. Depending on the presentation, assessment or psychiatric support may also be appropriate.

Worry Tension Avoidance Temporary relief repeat

Understanding Depression

Depression is more than feeling sad for a few days. It can affect mood, interest, energy, sleep, concentration and everyday functioning, and may make ordinary activities feel harder than they once did.

You may notice

  • Persistent low mood or sadness
  • Losing interest in things you usually enjoy
  • Low energy or reduced motivation
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt

What can help

Depression is treatable. Therapy helps you work through patterns of thinking and behaviour that maintain low mood, and medication can be helpful where symptoms are moderate to severe. The right combination depends on the individual.

Understanding OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder involves recurring intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) that a person feels driven to perform. It is a well-understood, treatable condition — not a personality quirk.

You may notice

  • Intrusive, unwanted thoughts or images
  • Repetitive checking, washing or counting
  • Mental rituals to neutralise distress
  • Temporary relief followed by returning doubt
  • Shame or secrecy about the thoughts

What can help

ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) is the gold-standard psychological treatment for OCD, sometimes combined with medication. Specialist support makes a real difference.

Understanding Adult ADHD

ADHD is not just a childhood condition. In adults it can show up as chronic disorganisation, time blindness, restlessness and difficulty sustaining attention — often mistaken for laziness or poor discipline.

You may notice

  • Trouble sustaining attention on tasks
  • Chronic procrastination and missed deadlines
  • Impulsive decisions or interruptions
  • Restlessness, inner or outer
  • Time blindness and poor task estimation

What can help

A structured assessment clarifies whether ADHD explains the difficulties. Support may include therapy for executive-function skills, and medication where appropriate.
